As of today, both Rogers and Fido offers UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access). With UMA compatible devices (Rogers is offering so far Nokia 6086 only, no word on Blackberry devices, such as 8320 and Fido is offering Nokia 6301), you can make free calls over Wifi using your phone without using your minutes.
Rogers calls it "Home Calling Zone", whereas Fido named it "Uno"....

I know this site now feels abandoned, as many of the regulars, including myself, haven't been posting much in the past year, if not more.
Just wanted to check which one of you are still checking this site and let's hear from you. What's your latest status? Which Windows Mobile device are you using currently?
I am using an Iphone, HTC Touch Cruise and Blackberry 8110.

Here is some great news everyone. Blackberry has released the new and shiny Blackberry Connect 4.0 client for Windows Mobile devices, including support for Smartphones and Pocket PCs. It also supports Windows Mobile 6, along with 5.

Apparently Toronto Hydro plan to setup wifi in downtown Toronto from Jarvis to Spadina, and Front to Bloor. They plan to complete the process by the end of the year and are going to offer free access for the first six months.

mail2web.com, a service of my company, has launched mail2web Live, a free Microsoft Exchange 2003 email service, supporting browser based interface and of course Active Sync.
This is a perfect companion for a Pocket PC or a Smartphone...
